On Sunday evening around 9PM a crash involving four vehicles on LA 447 south of I-12 in Livingston Parish claimed the lives of two of SGT Taurean Shropshire’s son’s.  His sons were 4-year old Samuel Shropshire and 6-year old Khaiden Ramsey.

SamuelAs one could imagine this incident has placed SGT Shropshire and his family under great distress mentally, physically, and more importantly financially.  As a result of this unfortunate and unforeseen event, SGT Shropshire and family bear the burden funeral and burial expenses for two children along with any medical expenses incurred by the their mother.

The crash happened after 50-year-old Travis Rose of Denham Springs made a left turn from a private drive onto LA 447 in a Nissan pickup truck.  A garbage compactor fell out of the bed of his truck and landed in the northbound lane of LA 447.   Rose left the compactor in the road and drove back to his home.

The mother, 34-year old Michelle Ramsey of Baton Rouge, struck the garbage compactor in the northbound lane and pulled over off the roadway.  Another young lady pulled off the road with Ramsey, placed triangles along the road to warn other oncoming drivers.  While Ramsey and Butler were attempting to remove the garbage compactor from the road, 26-year old Jerry Ervin of Holden drove through the triangles, ran off the right side of the road, and struck both Ramsey and Butler’s cars and five of the passengers that were standing outside the cars.  4-year old Shropshire and 6-year old Ramsey sustained fatal injuries in the crash.  They were pronounced dead on the scene.

SGT Shropshire is a currently serving National Guard member of the FSC 769 BEB.  He has served and continues to serve honorably.  Any donations to him and his family would be greatly appreciated.  The initial GoFundMe goal of $8,000 was set soon after the accident, but now that the expenses and bills are coming in, this family will need closer to $30,000 for medical, additional surgeries, funeral costs, and counseling for the surviving daughter.
