Chief Master Sergeant Anthony Lopez is the namesake for The Louisiana National Guard Enlisted Association Scholarship. The program awards two scholarships every year in the amount of $2,000 each.
Chief Lopez joined the Air Force in 1957 and served in Korea for 18 months. He joined the Louisiana Air National Guard in 1961 as a traditional guardsman, but took an AGR position in 1964 and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1982.
Chief Lopez passed away during the 1983 LANGEA Conference in Baton Rouge, and LANGEA has named their annual scholarship program in his honor.
The scholarship’s online application is now open and accepting entries through February 28th at midnight, at which time, the application process will close and we will begin evaluating the applications to determine the winners.
The application form can be found on the LANGEA website under the benefits menu tab, or by clicking here: https://langea.org/2014-scholarship-application/
The scholarships are only for Louisiana National Guard families who are affiliated with a LANGEA membership. Complete eligibility rules are on the first page of the application process. If the LANGEA membership has lapsed, or the Guardsman needs to join, they can join by going to www.langea.org and clicking Join or Renew under the Membership tab.
In 2013, we only had 4 applicants for the scholarship. We are hoping to get into the double digits for 2014, so your chances of receiving a scholarship are still very good.
