In order to qualify for the Military Disabled License plate (now called the Military Honors Plate which has the international wheel chair emblem on it).  The old plate has been recognized as eligible to park in a disabled parking zone in Louisiana, but not necessarily true in other states.  I have no idea why it was changed from Disabled Veteran to Military Honors. The Veteran must be rated at least 50 percent or higher disabled, get a form letter from their local Parish VA representative, call the local DMV office to see if they have received the new plates.  I’m sure it will take some time to make distribution throughout the state, because they only became available yesterday at the State Police Headquarters in Baton Rouge (they are not distributed from the DMV office in Baton Rouge, but at the State Police headquarters, 7919 Independence Blvd, first building on the right (the State Police headquarters is located right next to the DMV building).

Any Veteran who has been issued the Disabled Veterans plate can trade it in for the new Military Honors plate with the international wheel chair symbol on it which designates a disability and it is recognized in any State for parking in any disability zone.  There was some confusion as to whether or not the $8.00 charge would be put on the the plate if you were replacing it for the old plate, but the gave me my new registration card, the new plate and told me I could keep the old plate as well, and no charge.

Remember, the plate is for life and never has to be renewed.
