I am a firm believer in the following school of thought:

  • If it is important, then you will pay attention to it.
  • If it is not important, then you won’t.
  • If you want it to be important to others, then let them know that you are paying attention to it.
  • If they know it is being measured, and can understand how their efforts affect the measurement, they will make an effort.

Months ago, EANGUS invested in a more modern legislative action system called Phone2Action.  This system makes it easy for members of the Enlisted Associations to communicate with those elected to represent us in Washington D.C.  Essentially, it works like this:

  1. The EANGUS Legislative Director puts out a “Call to Action” on an issue that is in line with the goals of EANGUS.
  2. The “Call to Action” is sent out via email to those who have good emails in our system (military emails are sometimes a challenge).
  3. Those who receive the “Call to Action” respond to it and send a reply to their elected representatives.
  4. The “Call to Action” can also be shared with others who are not yet in the EANGUS email system and they too can respond.
  5. If enough people share the “Call to Action”, then it begins to take on a life of its own as a legislative movement, and THAT is how political opinion shapes how our country is governed.

So here is a quick demonstration of how EANGUS, the State Association Leadership, and our Association Members can make a difference.

The below “Call to Action” was sent out around 23 February 2015.

Call-to-Action

The week prior to this Call to Action, here are the rankings on which States were the most active for that week.

On February 28th, 2015, the President of the Enlisted Association of the New York National Guard sent out the below email to his State Association members:

And on the next week’s Phone2Action Update….

The Phone2Action Update will be visible 24/7 on the EANGUS.org site initially, but we will work with the company to have that same Top State ranking visible on all of the State Association sites as well.

All it takes to make a big difference, are small efforts like this from all the State Associations.  We are going to make it easy for the State Association leadership to communicate with their members.  After that, it will be up to those leaders to make the effort.  Our hats off to the New York Association for making a difference.
