EANGUS has selected Daniel Elkins as Director of Government Affairs.  Daniel served abroad for five years as a project manager working with multiple agencies in Africa, the Middle East and South America, assisting in impoverished communities. During this period, he observed U.S. Special Forces making an incredible difference in some of the poorest countries in the world.  After returning to the U.S., he enlisted in the Maryland National Guard, completing basic training, AIT, and jump school.  He is currently an E-4 traditional Guard member in the 19th Special Forces Group.  Daniel served 2 1/2 years as a Legislative Associate for the Veterans of Foreign Wars in DC, specializing in education issues.  in 2012, he was instrumental in building a coalition of military organizations, including EANGUS, for a successful U.S. Senate bill that supported for-profit online universities with a record of service to military members.  He has worked with key staff in dozens of House and Senate offices on Capitol Hill and will be able to build upon key relationships already established by EANGUS. In addition, he intends to build a formal legislative internship program at EANGUS, giving other enlisted Guard members opportunities to build their legislative resumes.  He will be a valuable addition to the EANGUS National Office team.
